NEUROMODULATION
CONFERENCE

Our Mission is to promote education and access to neuromodulation therapies across Canada.

Education includes professional development and encouragement of best clinical practices as well as supporting patient, family and community awareness. Promoting access to care includes government advocacy and leadership in healthcare policy concerning neuromodulation.

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Welcome to the Canadian Neuromodulation Society. Our mission is to promote education and access to neuromodulation therapies across Canada.

Our Society was founded ten years ago and represents the leaders in Neuromodulation across Canada. I believe we have two primary goals at this time. First, we are responsible for educating the public and our peers about neuromodulation. The corner stone of this is our annual scientific meeting where experts in neuromodulation from across Canada and around the world meet to present their latest research and debate the contentious issues in our field. The “Meeting” section of this website will provide updated information on our upcoming scientific meeting in Nunavut. Education of the public is equally important because patients and their caregivers need to know what is available for them.

Second, we must be the advocates for our patients who do not have a strong voice. We must ensure that if a patient in Canada needs neuromodulation, they are able to get it. That requires lobbying the government and local health authorities to provide access to care. The “Newsletter” section of the website will provide updates on these nationwide efforts. The results of the recent CanADA study, a two-year analysis of all deep brain stimulation procedures across Canada, has revealed provincial inequities in access to care across Canada. The Society is actively working with Parkinsons Quebec to increase access to care for Quebecers. We are also working with the government of BC to create another neuromodulation centre in that province. We have also reached out to the neurologists in the three territories to ensure patients from the North are connected with neuromodulations centres.

Thank you for your interest in our Society. I hope you will join us as we seek to provide the best care in neuromodulation for our patients from Coast to Coast to Coast.
